As part of GCC’s commemoration of the Civil War, and in coordination with the Civil War Lecture Series (March 22 & 29, April 5 & 12), an essay contest is being offered. Area students in grades 9-12 will be asked to write a three page paper (minimum & using Chicago Style citations) on the topic, “What did and/or does the Civil War mean for American Identity?” Entries will be due in electronic form (e-mail attachment) to Derek Maxfield at email@example.com by April 1st. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd , and 3rd place. Winners will be announced at the last lecture of the series on April 12th at GCC in T102 at 7:00pm. The GCC bookstore is generously donating a $100 gift card for 1st place, and $50 gift cards for 2nd and 3rd.
