To mark the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Genesee Community College is offering a free program to local schools entitled “Northern Morality and Southern Honor: How Victorian Culture laid the Foundation for a Civil War.” Historian Derek Maxfield, a history professor at GCC, will present the program in costume (see picture) as a way to illustrate Victorian culture. The program is designed for Jr. and Sr. high school students. A shorter program, also presented in costume, is available to elementary school students that focuses more on the material culture of the Victorians.
Anyone interested in hosting a program may contact Derek Maxfield at GCC. E-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org or call (585)343-0055 ext. 6288.
